Involved in the fighting in Soerabaja, Dutch East Indies, when the Japanese overwhelmed the Allies in March 1942, Roelof evacuated to the UK by ship via South Africa. Employed by the Royal Netherlands Naval HQ in London, Roelof was recruited by SOE in July 1942. |
| The dropping of Roelof was requested by the Dutch, and his operation - "Op Parsley", was crucial to the success of the "Plan for Holland".
