Miscellaneous Information
Hugh was born at Regina, Saskatchewan on 21 January 1926. His father, a salesman, was born in London, England and his mother in Germany. He had two brothers Edwin and Kenneth and a sister Evelyn. He attended Thornton School, Saskatoon between 1931-1939 (grade 8) and Technical School, Saskatoon, 1939-1940. His only sport interest was hockey. Between 1940-1941 he carried out deliveries for an A. Hargreaves of Saskatoon and between 1941-1943 he worked as a dental technician at Saskatoon Dental Laboratory. |
Hugh enlisted on 29 September 1943 and after initial training was posted to the U.K. He embarked from Halifax on 11 July 1944, reaching 3PRC on 19 July and then went to 22 OTU on 22 August 1944, 76 Base 15 November 1944 and 408 Squadron 28 February 1945. He sadly lost his life on 18 April 1945 aged just nineteen. |
