Miscellaneous Information
Roland was born on 4 February 1926 at Unity, Saskatchewan. His father was born in Toronto, Ontario and worked as a Firefighter in the RCAF. His mother was born at Adanac, Saskatchewan. He had one sister, Vivian Ruth. He attended Buena Vista School, Saskatoon 1936-1942. The sport he took part in was football and he enjoyed hunting. Roland worked as a painter for Pat Burns and was then a Call Boy for CNR in Saskatoon. |
He enlisted on 13 October 1943 and after training was posted to the U.K. He embarked from Halifax on 11 July 1944, arriving at 3 (RCAF) PRC on 19 July 1944. He then arrived at 22 OTU 22 August 1944, 76 Base 15 November 1944 and 408 Squadron on 28 February 1945. Sadly Roland was to lose his life on 17 April 1945. |
