Miscellaneous Information
Charles was born on 15 December 1923 at Toronto, Ontario. Both parents were born in England. His father, a stone cutter, in Northampton and his mother in Portsmouth. He had two sisters, Grace Violet and Shirley Florence. The schools he attended were Howard Park, 1931-1938 followed by Western Tech, Toronto, 1938-1940 (Commercial). His sport interests were hockey, baseball and bowling and he enjoyed art as a hobby. Charles worked at the West Acme Screw and Gear company. Between 1940-1941 he was in the Cafeteria and then went on to being a Tool Setter 1941-1942 until enlisting on 27 January 1943. |
After enlisting and initial training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Halifax on 2 June 1944. He arrived at 3 (RCAF) PRC on 11 June 1944 and then went to 2 (0) AFU on 11 July 1944, 22 OTU 22 August 1944, 76 Base 15 November 1944 and finally arrived at 408 squadron on 28 February 1945. Sadly it was from there that Charles lost his life two months later on 17 April 1945. |
