Miscellaneous Information
Donald was born on 5 January 1925 at Calgary Alberta. His father was born in China and worked as a teacher and his mother born in Scotland. She was Captain Dorothy Miller RCAMC Toronto, on a Canadian Hospital ship, Letitia (which was used to bring home PoWs towards the end of the war), where she was a laboratory assistant. He had brothers , F/L George Douglas and James Warren who was a Captain in the 1st Canadian Army. Donald attended St. Patrick’s Private, School, West Vancouver, 1929-1938, then University Hill 1938-1940 and King Edward High (Snr.Matric). He enjoyed all sports. He worked for W.R. Carpenter Co. Vancouver as a lab assistant 1941-1942 and also as a lab assistant for B.C Pulp and Paper, Woodfibre BC, 1942-1942, until enlistment. |
He then enlisted on 26 November 1942 and after training embarked for the U.K. where he arrived at 3 PRC on 11 May, 1944. He then went on to 1(0)AFU 11 July 1944, 22 OTU 22 August 1944, 76 Base 15 November 1944, 1659 CU. 29 December 1944, 408 Squadron 28 February 1945. Donald sadly lost his life on 17 April 1945 |
