Miscellaneous Information
Douglas was born at Cookstown, Ontario on 10 November 1921. His parents were both born in Orangeville, Ontario and his father worked as a druggist. He was one of four sons, Grant, Alan and Gordon but sadly J/89896 P/O Gordon F. Dawson was killed two months later, on 15 November 1944- see http://losses.internationalbcc.co.uk/loss/207048. He was lost while serving in England with Bomber Command. The schools Douglas attended were Cookstown Public, 1930-1939 followed by Cookstown High 1939-1941. He enjoyed most sports in general. Douglas worked in the machine shop for Canada Cycle and Motors at Weston, Ontario from 1941 until enlistment on 13 April 1943. |
Unfortunately his service record does not show any movements once he was posted overseas. Douglas sadly died on 17 September 1944 at the age of nineteen. |
