Miscellaneous Information
Norman was born at Bladworth, Saskatchewan on 20 October 1922. His father, a farmer, was born in Ontario and and his mother was born in Scotland. He was from a large family of ten children. His brothers were Clarence, Harold, Laurence, Howard and Kenneth and his four sisters Mrs. Ruthven Thompson, Gertrude, Janet and Pearl. Edward went to Knob Hill S.D.school from 1928-1936 (grade 8) and again between 1936-1938 (grade 10). He enjoyed playing hockey and baseball. He worked in farming between 1938- 1942. Firstly with H.T. Ault 1938-1941 and then with Gerald Ryder 1941-1942, both in Bladworth. He then enlisted on 20 November 1942. |
After initial training he was sent to the U.K. and embarked from Canada on 25 March 1944, arriving in the U.K. at 3 (RCAF) PRC on 3 April 1944. He then went to 22 OTU on 18 April 1944, 61 Base 20 September 1944 and 415 Squadron 11 November 1944. Sadly, the following year he lost his life on 6 January, 1945. |

Operation | Hanau. 482 aircraft, 6 losses. Hanau contained an important junction in the German railway system. Many bombs hit the area directly around the target but also many were scattered across the town. The local report states that about 40% of the town was destroyed with 90 deaths. |
Reason for Loss | Collided with a 10 Sqn Halifax (LV909 ZA-P) over Oberscheld. Crashed at Eibach |
