Born 31 October 1915, Marylebone. His father Alfred was a police constable in the Met. Police. John was a local government officer at the St. Pancras Treasurers Office. His DFM was promulgated after his death, 20 June 1944, Issue 36571 of the London Gazette. His medals were sold at auction by Morton & Eden. |
DFM Citation: This airman has completed numerous operational missions as Navigator. His work at all times has been of a high standard. He has attacked targets in heavily defended areas of Germany and Italy and during the daylight raid on Milan, it was largely due to his skill in navigation that his crew accomplished the mission with outstanding success. Throughout his operational career, Flight Sergeant Prior has displayed most creditable courage and devotion to duty. |
