Miscellaneous Information
Born 13 August 1909, Kingsley, Manitoba. Educated at Elm Street Public School, Medicine Hat and Redcliffe Public & High Schools in Edmonton. Whilst living in 94th Street, Edmonton he was employed by Alberta Liquor Control Board. His widow Ethel in 1952 was living in Kirk Alta Apartments, Edmonton. |
DFM Citation: This NCO has completed 18 operational sorties totalling 120,55 hours, 16 of them as Bomb Aimer and 2 as Air Gunner. At all times he has shown courage and determination of the highest order. As Air Gunner, he took part in the 1,000 bomber raid on Cologne and since then has visited almost all the important targets in both Germany and Italy. He took part with his Captain, Sergeant Thom, in the daylight raid on Milan where he had the satisfaction of seeing his bombs burst in the centre of town. Among other targets, he has twice bombed Berlin, the most recent occasion being the highly successful raid of 1st March, 1943. It is very largely through his coolness and co-operation as a Bomb Aimer that his crew have met with so much success and I strongly recommend him for the award of Distinguished Flying Medal. |
