This aircraft was one of a batch of 450 Manchesters ordered from A. V. Roe (Chadderton) in January 1940 of which 207 were built as Lancaster 1, and delivered from July to November 1942 initially fitted with Merlin 20 engines. This aircraft was delivered to 9 Squadron 10Sep42. W4186 was one of two 9 Sqn Lancasters lost on this operation. See W4765. When lost W4186 was on its first operation and had a total of 8 hours. Lost without trace. |
