Miscellaneous Information
| Born on 28 April 1920 in Brooklyn, New York, USA. Known as Gerry |
| Despite taking USA citizenship, the family returned to Holland and established a glass import company in Amsterdam. Educated at Montessori School, Amsterdam, Gerard was employed as an insurance agent in Amsterdam. In May 1940 when the Germans invaded Holland, Gerard had to report to the German authorities as a foreign national, and as soon as he turned 21, he left Holland to return to the USA, travelling via Spain. Arriving in New York, Gerard was employed at the recruitment office of the Dutch Armed Forces until he decided to go to England to join the fight. In December 1941 Gerard joined the Dutch Intelligence Services and commenced training as a saboteur and wireless operator. |
| In July 1942, Gerard was tasked with delivering the order for "Op Feather" to Leek Section. "Op Feather" was the plan to be launched by Group Taconis to attack the German Naval radio station in Kootwijk, Gelderland, which was used by the German forces to communicate with the U-boats in the Atlantic. |

| Operation | Agent and supplies drop comprising one agent and six canisters. |
| Reason for Aircraft Loss | Successfully dropped at the drop zone near Holten in Overijssel, the Gestapo were waiting. Unbeknown to SOE, the Germans had infiltrated the Dutch Section and were operating a very successful counterintelligence operation, known as "Englandspiel". Immediately arrested, Gerard was sent to The Hague where he was interrogated by the SS, and then transferred to the SD prison Haaren in North Brabant. Following the escape of prisoners from Haaren on 29 November 1943 the remaining agents, including Gerard, were first transported to the prison in Assen, then in 1944 to Rawicz. Most agents were then transferred to the Mauthausen concentration camp in Austria. Gerard was executed, along with 22 other SOE agents, on 6 September 1944. |
