Miscellaneous Information
| Maurice was born on 27 November 1912 in Sainte-Colombe, Seine-et-Marne, France. He was raised and educated in Paris and then worked as a chef in the city and later with the CGT shipping line working the trans-Atlantic route. He was called up for service until the fall of France when he escaped to America via Morocco. |
| In December 1942 he was called up for service in the US and after becoming a naturalised citizen transferred to the Special Ops branch of the OSS. He transferred to the UK in November 1943. |
| He used aliasses Maurice Lanis and Maurice Lanois. His field name was Colin. |
| Note that the dates of death for the three agents dropped from this aircraft are uncertain. The two Americans were added to the US Register of the Missing on 1 May 1945, whereas CWGC quotes 01 August 1944 and 30 September 1944 for Lt. David Finlayson. |

| Operation | Drop-zone Saint-Quentin. Three agents to establish the three-man "Liontamer" Group, a new circuit to be established in the Valenciennes area in preparation for D-Day, and to support the "Archdeacon" circuit which had radioed arrangements for the drop and reception, and the "Musician" circuit which was to provide the reception party. |
| Reason for Aircraft Loss | Successfully dropped but the Gestapo were waiting and immediately arrested him on landing as part of the 'Funkspiel' using previously captured radios and access codes. After interrogration he was transferred to Fresnes Prison, Val-de-Marne, Paris and then to Rawitsch Prison, Poland. When orders were received for his execution he was taken to KZ Gross-Rosen concentration camp. His body was cremated and he has no known grave. |
