| Death registered Ruthin, Denbighshire. His death is listed in the National Probate Calendar as 'on war service.' |
| CWGC list his unit as 1 PHU (Personnel Holding Unit) but this is a temporary unit and it is therefore not clear whether he was still on the strength of Bomber Command when he died. |
| He had previously evaded captured after surviving a crash in France on 25 July1944 during an attack on Stuttgart with No. 166 Squadron. | Reason for Aircraft Loss | His cause of death is unknown. He was the flight engineer aboard Lancaster JB649 which was shot down by a night-fighter and he and all of the crew, who had each flown at least 28 operations, succesfully abandoned the aircraft and evaded capture, returning to Middle Wallop on 8 September 1944 thanks to the efforts of the resistance and SAS. |
