Translation "LW629 took off from RAF Holme-on-Spalding Moor at 23:29 hrs on March 1st, 1944. The target that night was Stuttgart. Thick clouds made it difficult for enemy fighters to attack the 415 Lancasters, 129 Halifaxes and 13 Mosquitoes taking part in the operation. Four RAF aircraft were nevertheless lost that night including one Halifax which crashed on its return flight. A Luftwaffe fighter shot down LW629 at 4:04. Navigator F/Sgt Jackson survived and escaped but was arrested in the Pyrenees in April as he was making his way to Spain and made a prisoner of war" |

| Operation | Stuttgart. 557 aircraft, 4 losses (0.7%)- due mainly to the cloudy conditions preventing the night-fighters infiltrating the bomber stream. The target was also cloudy and crews were generally unable to gauge how successful the raid had been on their return. Several important industrial buildings were hit including the Bosch and Daimler-Benz works. Many other buildings damaged in recent raids were completely razed. 125 deaths and 510 injuries on the ground. |
