| Takeoff Station | Downham Market |

| Operation | Nuremburg. 337 aircraft, 9 losses (2.7%). PFF marking was late due to poor weather conditions with the result that most of the bombs fell on the northern outskirts of the city. Some of the bombs fell in neighbouring Furth. |
| Reason for Aircraft Loss | Following post war investigations it was established that the aircraft was shot down by enemy aircraft and fell partly on the bank and in the river of the Rhine. Captured German documents revealed that Flt Sgt Mathews and Sgt Young were buried in Mannheim Cemetery. They were later re-interred in Bad Toelz (Durnbach) War Cemetery, Germany. The documents also revealed that Sgt Wade (RAAF) and Sgt Stuart were buried in Ludwigshafen Cemetery, but their graves could not be identified and they are recorded as having no known grave (Alan Storr). Hit by 1, 2 & 5/schw Flak Abt 491 and 3 & 4/schw Flak Abt 492. Aircraft disintegrated over Rheinau near Mannheim at 00:18. (Nachtjagd Combat Archive 1943 Part 1 - Theo Boiten) |
