Clarence was born on 20 September 1912 in Toronto. His father, before retirement, had worked for the Consumers Gas Co, and both he and his mother were born in England. Sadly his mother died in 1935. He had brothers Roland, Frederick and George as well as sisters Margaret, Nellie, Ruby, Constance, Jessie and Emily. He attended the Duke of Connaught School 1920-1928. He did a correspondence course with Jarvis Collegiate between 1934-1935 and attended night classes at East High School of Commerce 1935-1936. Clarence had worked as a Press Operator with General Steel Wares during 1928, and had been a junior Book Keeper 1929-1935 with the Super Health Aluminium Company. He had also worked as a Salesman with United Legion Stores 1936-1941. He enjoyed swimming and softball. |
On 28 February 1941 Clarence enlisted (before the birth of his second daughter) and embarked for the U.K. on 25 September 1942. He was at 3 PRC 9 October 1942, 5 OTU 9 November,1942, 489 Squadron 15 May 1943, 455 Sqn 4 November 1943, 9 (0)AFU 1 February 1944. 61 Base 25 June 1944 and 428 Squadron 10 August 1944. |
