Carl was born on 25 September 1920 at Nanaimo, British Columbia. His father was born in Russia and worked in construction in a logging camp and his mother was born in Nanaimo. He had one brother, Andrew. The schools he attended were John Shaw School, 1926-1932, and also John Shaw High 1932-1936. He then took a bookkeeping course at Nanaimo Business College (all schools in Nanaimo). The sports he enjoyed were soccer, basketball, softball, baseball and lacrosse. During 1937 Carl worked as a clerk/stenographer for Ormunds Ltd. 1938-1940 he was working for Back Of The Woods Milling Co. as an Assistant bookkeeper and also as a bookkeeper 1940-1942 for Stewart & Hudson (all in Victoria, B.C). |
Carl enlisted on 30 March 1942 and after training embarked from Boston on 9 October 1943. After arrival in the U.K. at 3PRC on 18 October 1943 he went to 1 (0)AFU, 23 November 1943, 24 OTU 25 January 1944, 61 Base 8 May, 1666 CU 20 June 1944, and 428 Squadron 11 December 1944. |
