Reason for Loss | An engine caught fire while flying over South Wales, flames spreading rapidly to engulf the wing. The pilot ordered the crew to bale out but only five were in a position to do so before the Halifax crashed west of Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire. One of the servicemen who successfully baled out was tragically killed as his parachute caught light |
