Miscellaneous Information
Alfred was born on 31 March 1913 at Delhi, Ontario. His father was born at Durham, Maine, USA, and was deceased by the time of Alfred's enlistment. He was a former branch manager at Canadian Canners, Delhi, and his mother was born at Bookton, Ontario, and was also deceased. He had a sister, Helen. The schools he attended were Delhi Public 1919-1925 and Delhi Continuation 1925-1928. He was also at Fullsburg High School 1928-1930, University of Toronto, 1930-1934 (Bachelor of Commerce) and an International Correspondence School 1934–1936. His sport interests were tennis, badminton, squash and baseball. Alfred worked at Pembroke Shook Mills, Ontario as an accountant and Assistant Manager from 1934. |
He enlisted on 21 February 1941 and after training was posted to the U.K., embarking from New York on 21 January 1944 and arriving at 3PRC on 23 January 1944. He then continued to 6(0} AFU 7 March, 1944, P.F. N.T.U. 25 April 1944, 35 Sqn 28 May 1944 and 582 Squadron on 25 July 1944. Very sadly the following month on 29 August 1944, Alfred was to lose his life. |

The local report states that 1569 houses and 32 industrial premises were badly damaged. One ship was sunk and seven others damaged. 1033 people were killed and 1034 were injured. |
