Miscellaneous Information
John was born on 31 May 1921, at Brookvale, Lot 30, Prince Edward Island. His father was a farmer born at Brookvale and his mother was born at Maple Wood. He was one of ten children. One of the brothers, Private Michael Cecil Stordy F/38672 was in the Royal Canadian Infantry Corps and whilst in training, very sadly accidentally drowned. He was only 19 years old. John attended Brookvale School 1929-1937(grade 8) followed in 1937-1939 (grade 10). He enjoyed a game of baseball and his hobbies were fishing, hunting and skating. He spent four months farming, then working on a dairy farm in 1939. He also worked as a labourer for one year and then as an assistant Shipper in 1941. |
He enlisted on 17 July 1941 and after initial training embarked from Canada on 25 September 1942 for the U.K. He arrived at 3PRC on 9 October 1942, 405 Conversion Flt. 27 October 1942, 1659 CU 28 October 1942, and 405 Squadron on 15 January 1943. On 27 April 1943, John very sadly lost his life. |
