Miscellaneous Information
The Germans buried six bodies (out of 14 from the two aircraft, which crashed close together) in a communal grave at Germering and the British authorities could only individually identify five of them. |
Robert was born on 27 July 1922 in Burnaby, British Columbia. His father was born in Ontario and was a Shipyard worker and his mother was born in Maryland, USA. She had sadly died in 1926. Robert was one of seven children: brothers, Lawrence, Daniel and Thomas and sisters Annah, Fay and Margaret. He went to Windsor Street Public school, Burnaby 1928-1937 and Burnaby South High 1937-1938 (completed Grade 9). He also went on a W.E.T.P. Course. Robert enjoyed all sports and his hobby was photography. He worked as a painter for Fogg Motors, an automobile dealer, 1938-1939, in New Westminster and also for B.C. Plywoods, Vancouver 1939-1942. |
On 9 June 1942 Robert enlisted and after training was sent to the U.K. where he arrived at 3PRC on 5 June 1943. He was at 428 Sqn on 16 June 1943, 61 Base 29 April 1944, 419 Squadron 8 July 1944 and 405 Squadron on 27 September 1944. |
