De Britse Bristol Blenheim lichte bommenwerper (Blenheim IV, R3892, 114 Sqn) met drie bemanningsleden was op bombardementsmissie naar de Duitse stad Bremen, maar werd op 19 Augustus 1940 boven Schiphol door een Duitse jager in brand geschoten en boorde zich die in de grond van de boomgaard naast de borderij van de fam. Van Kempen, Zuiderweg 31 (tegenwoordig nr. 41), Zuidoostbeemster. Schutter St Andrew Stevenson, de derde vlieger, wist tijdig het toestel te verlaten en landde per parachute; hij werd krijgsgevangen gemaakt. Pilot St Kenneth Herbert DOBB (* 1921) en St Alexander Morrison PILLANS (* onbekend) kwamen bii de crash om het leven en liggen als enige oorlogsslachtoffers in een veldgraf in de Beemster
Translation "The British Bristol Blenheim light bomber (Blenheim IV, R3892, 114 Sqn) with three crew members was on a bombing mission to the German city of Bremen, but was shot down by a German fighter above Schiphol on 19 August 1940 and crashed into the ground of the orchard next to the family embroidery shop. Van Kempen, Zuiderweg 31 (today no. 41), Zuidoostbeemster. Gunner St Andrew Stevenson, the third pilot, managed to leave the aircraft in time and landed by parachute; he was made a prisoner of war. Pilot St Kenneth Herbert DOBB (* 1921) and St Alexander Morrison PILLANS (* unknown) died in the crash and lie as the only war victims in a field grave in the Beemster" |
