Miscellaneous Information
Ernest was born on 28 May 1917 in Toronto. His father, who pre-deceased him, had been a city foreman and both parents were born in England and married in Cardiff, Wales in 1901. He went to Adelaide Public School 1923-1932 in Hamilton and also Hamilton Technical School 1932-1935 studying pattern making. The sports he enjoyed most were swimming and running. He had a First Aid certificate and had been a Bandsman. Ernest had worked at Carroll’s Grocery, Hamilton as a Store Clerk between 1935-1937. Also, as a Recorder for the Steel Company of Canada, 1937-1941, also in Hamilton. |
He enlisted on 11 July 1941 and embarked from Halifax for the U.K. on 22 October 1943, arriving at 3 (RCAF) PRC on 31 October 1943. Then 20 (P) AFU 14 March 1944, 24 OTU 13 June 1944, 61 Base 13 September 1944, 1664 CU 29 September 1944 and finally 428 Squadron 12 November 1944. Sadly, just a few short weeks later, on 28 December, Ernest was to lose his life. |
