Miscellaneous Information
Ernest was born on 17 March 1915 at New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. His father, who died 1933, was born in Bristol, England and had worked as a Salesman. His mother was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He had two sisters Dorothy and Rita but sadly his two brothers had died- Alex In 1928 and Reginald in 1930. The schools he attended were Winter Street, St. John 1924-1932 (grades 1-8), St. John High 1932-1934 (grades 9 and 10) and then St. John Vocational for six months. His sporting interests were tennis, golf, football, swimming and track and his hobby was being an amateur camera man. Ernest worked with various newspapers between 1934 and 1940 as district sales/circulation manager. He was District Sales Manager of the Saturday Evening Post, Circulation Manager of St John Citizen and then the City Sales Manager of the N.B Publishing Co. Niagara Falls. He had spent three years in the R.C.N.V.R. |
Ernest enlisted on 11 September 1940 and after initial training was posted to the U.K. He arrived at 3PRC on 29 June 1941, 10 OTU 7 July 1941 and 77 Squadron 19 August 1941. Sadly it was from there on 6 September 1941 that Ernest was to lose his life . |
