Miscellaneous Information
Ivan was born at Edmonton, Alberta on 4 January 1914. His father was born at Goldboro, Nova Scotia and was a grocery salesman (Commercial Traveller), and his mother was born in London, England. He attended the Westmount Public school 1920 -1927 (Primary) and then the High School. 1927-1928. Ivan then went on to McDougal Commercial 1928- 1930 (typing, bookkeeping etc)- all schools were in Edmonton. He was in both the Public School and High School cadets. Ivan enjoyed a lot of sport including badminton, curling, hockey, and tennis. His hobby was collecting pictures of plants. Apart from a couple of episodes when he was unemployed he worked for Standard Brands as a shipper, and at Hudson’s Bay Co. in charge of the fruit department. Finally for H.H. Cooper Ltd, grocers, at Edson, Alberta as a Bookkeeper, from 1939 onwards. |
Ivan enlisted on 2 June 1941. After enlisting and initial training, he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Canada on 20 March 1942, arriving in England at 3PRC on 29 March 1942. He then went to 11 AFU 12 May 1942, 20 OTU on 25 August 1942 and 426 Squadron on 25 November 1942. Ivan sadly lost his life on 30 January 1943. |

Operation | Hamburg using cloud cover. 148 aircraft. This was the first H2S attack of the war and the equipment did not fare well, leading to scattered bombing and little significant damage, except a bridge which brought the rail system in the city to a standstill for several days. |
