Miscellaneous Information
Air accident investigators found a sheared elevator control joint at the scene |
James Robert McCarthy was born in Tauranga, New Zealand. His parents were both English and he lived most of his life in England but he was born in New Zeland and was proud of that. He attended Kingsbury High School where he showed great prowess in engineering. He and his cousin (who was more like a brother) would regularly go to Hendon Aerodrome to watch the aircraft movements, where he developed a sharp talent for aircraft identification. He was an air cadet until he came of age to enlist. He was interested in both ice hockey and speedway. |
His family speak frequently of him with great fondness and regularly recount stories of his short life to ensure they are passed down through the generations. |
