Born 29 January 1922 in Glasgow, Scotland. Lost on Ops 20 days short of his 21st Birthday. |
The family emigrated to Montreal, Quebec where his Father was employed as a Stonecutter. Douglas and his older Brother William following their Father, who had gone ahead, in 1930 when he was 8 and William 15. Douglas was employed as a Junior Draughtsman at Lasalle Stone Co. Ltd. when he enlisted in January 1941, gaining his Air Gunners badge in July of that year. While in the UK he was at 16 OTU Upper Heyford and then 1658 Heavy Conversion Unit at Riccall which fed the Halifax equipped Squadrons of No. 4 Group in Yorkshire. |
