Miscellaneous Information
Joseph, a Jewish naturalised Canadian, was born on 13 August 1923 at Balti, Rumania. His father was born in Torowice, Russia and was a Merchant, his mother, also born in Russia, died in 1932. He had sisters Pearl and Tuby. The schools he attended were King Edward, Toronto 1930-1937 (general course) and Harbord Collegiate School 1937-1941 (Matric). He also attended the Jewish School Talmud Torah. Joseph’s sport interests were billiards, tennis, rugby, baseball and basketball. He worked as a Tracer at Tip Top Tailors in 1941, and then as a Shipper at Atlas Overalls 1941-1942. |
After enlisting on 10 November 1942 and early training, Joseph embarked from Halifax on 10 April 1944 and arrived in the U.K. at 3 PRC on 19 April 1944. He then went on to 6(0) AFU 4 July 1944, 27 OTU 8 August 1944, 61 Base 25 October 1944 and 1666 HCU on 24 November 1944. On 14 January 1945, Joseph sadly lost his life. |
