Miscellaneous Information
Walter was born on 25 February 1925 at Saskatoon. His father was born in England with occupation shown as RCAF and his mother was born at Weyburn, Saskatchewan. He had no siblings. He went to Haultain School, Saskatoon 1931-1940 (grade 8) and then to Saskatoon Technical school 1942-1943 (grade 9). Walter enjoyed playing hockey and softball and his hobbies were woodwork and cycling. He was a warehouse worker at Marshall Wells Company in Saskatoon, 1940-1942 and then spent a few months during 1942 as a truck driver for Baker’s Hardware. After Baker’s Hardware, Walter returned to finish his schooling. |
Walter enlisted on 24 September 1942 and after preliminary training was posted to the U.K. He embarked from Halifax on 11 July 1944 and arrived in England at 3(RCAF) PRC on 19 July 1944. From there he went to 24 OTU on 8 August 1944, 61 Base 28 October 1944 and 1666 CU on 24 November 1944. It was from there that Walter so sadly lost his life at the age of only nineteen years. |
