Miscellaneous Information
Lloyd was born on 7 November 1923 at York Township, Ontario. His father was born in Floss Township, Ontario and his mother in Reach Township. His mother died in Detroit, USA and he had a stepmother Edna May. His father worked as a Canadian Army Veterans Guard. He has sisters Edna and Rosamund as well as brothers Marvin and Robert. He also had three half sisters. Alvin was another male sibling but not clear if he was a full or half brother. He attended Jesse Ketchum Public school, 1939-1939 and then Danforth Technical school 1939–1940 (Industrial). The sports he took part in were hockey, baseball and rugby and his hobbies were motors and photography. He undertook six different occupations between 1939 and 1942. Between 1939 and 1940 he worked as a Stock-keeper, a Shipper and a paint sprayer and then between 1941-1942 he was a dump truck driver, a maintenance labourer and ended as a Bank messenger for the Bank of Nova Scotia. He enlisted on 29 October 1942. |
After training Lloyd was posted to the U.K., embarking from Halifax on 13 September 1943 and arriving at 3PRC on 20 September. He went to 22 OTU on 5 October 1943, 61 Base 24 February 1944, 420 Sqn 29 March 1944. Lloyd sadly then lost his life on 28 May 1944. |
