Miscellaneous Information
Robert was born on 14 April 1916 at Thistletown, York County, Ontario. His father, who died in 1932, was a Film Inspector, born in Ontario and his mother was also born in Ontario. He had three sisters, Joan the youngest, and two married sisters Mildred and Dorothea. The schools he attended were King Public School, Weston, Ontario 1922-1929 and Weston High 1929- 1934. He also studied aircraft, at the Technical Institute of Great Britain, 1939-1942. He worked at Weston Dairy doing Special Deliveries, 1934-1936, at Moffats Ltd., Weston, refrigeration merchants, 1936-1940 followed by National Steel Car Corporation as an aircraft fitter, 1940-1942. HIs sport interests were hockey, baseball and Lacrosse and his hobby was photography. |
He enlisted on 2 June 1942 and after training was posted to the U.K. He embarked from Halifax on 1 November 1943, arriving at 3 PRC (RCAF) on 10 November. He then proceeded to 14(P) AFU on 1 March 1944, 16 OTU 16 May 1944, 31 Base 10 August 1944, and 214 Squadron on 1 November 1944. Sadly he then lost his life on 21 March 1945. |
After joining 214 Squadron he flew 25 operations between 7 December 1944 and 20 March 1945. |
