Miscellaneous Information
Robert was born in Toronto on 5 October 1924. His father had been Foreman in a woodwork company, both parents born in England and deceased by the time Robert enlisted. Robert’s next of kin was then his sister, Louise. He attended Pauline Public School, Toronto 1934-1939 followed by Western Commerce 1939-1941 where he studied commercial subjects. He became an Aero Engine Mechanic. Robert’s favourite sport was skiing but he also joined in baseball, hockey and swimming. His hobbies were music, flying and photography. When he started work in 1941 he tried office work until 1942 but left because he didn’t enjoy it. He then worked as an Aircraft Mechanic with the Toronto Flying Club 1942-1942 but they then closed down so he went to work for Dominion Skyways until he enlisted on 11 February 1943. |
After training, he embarked from Halifax on 20 January 1944, 3 PRC 1 February 1944, 7(0) AFU 22 February 1944, 24 OTU 11 March 1944, 61 Base 9 August 1944 and 424 Squadron 11 October 1944. Robert sadly lost his life the following month on 1 November 1944. |
