Miscellaneous Information
Arnold was born on 16 May 1916 at Cartwright, Durham County. Both parents were born in Ontario and his father was a farmer. He had one sister Ferga Marjorie and two brothers, Keith Bruce and Neil Alexander. He attended Cadmus school 1922-1928 (general) Blackstock Continuation 1928-1932 (Jnr, Matric) and Bowmanville, 1932-1934 (Senior Matric). His sport interests were skating , baseball, tennis, badminton, and hockey. Arnold was working on his father’s farm 1934-1938 and also worked part time in 1937-1938 as a driver for Marlow Transport, Blackstock. He was then the proprietor of Johnston’s grocery between 1938-1941 before becoming a salesman for the Canadian Tire Corporation 1941-1942. |
He enlisted on 22 April 1942 and embarked from Halifax for the U.K. on 26 August 1943 where he arrived at 3PRC on 2 September 1943. From there he went to 5 AOS 19 October 1943, 12 OTU 17 March 1944, 1657 CU 29 May 1944 and then on to 115 Squadron on 11 June 1944. It was from there that he lost his life on 17 September 1944. |
