Miscellaneous Information
David was born on 25 October 1920 at Toronto, Ontario. Both parents were born in Ireland and his father worked as a foreman. His mother was deceased by the time of his enlistment. He had a sister Eileen, a half brother William and a half sister Kathleen. Their step-mother was Mary Louise. David attended Regal Road Public School 1926-1934 (Entrance) and Oakwood Collegiate Institute 1934-1938 (junior Matric). He played the flute and enjoyed running and swimming but his main interest was badminton and he became a professional badminton player. During the seasonal winter months of 1938-1940 he would assist the professionals at the Badminton & Racquet Club. He also spent three months working as a clerk during 1940 at Canadian Tire Corporation. |
He enlisted on 23 July 1940. After training, David was sent to the U.K. where he arrived on 17 April 1941. He went on to 17 OTU on 22 April 1941 and 110 Squadron 31 July 1941. Sadly David was to lose his life on 27 December 1941. |
