Miscellaneous Information
Avron was born on 11 February 1924 in Montreal. His father was a Merchant and born in Lithuania and his mother was born in Russia. He had one brother Bernard and one sister Janet. The schools he attended were: Fairmount School, Montreal 1930-1937 (7th Grade Primary); South Porcupine High school, Ontario, 1937-1938 ( one year High); Montreal Tech. 1940-1941 ( Engineering, evening course); W.E.T.P. Course at University of Montreal (4 months). His sport interests were skiing, swimming, bowling, basketball and baseball. Between 1938-1941 Avron worked as a clerk for Panet Market and then for Dominion Engineering Works, Longueuil , P.O. from 1941 until enlisting on 17 June 1942. |
After initial training Avron embarked from Halifax on 30 June 1943, arriving in the U.K. at 3 PRC on 8 July 1943. He then continued on to 7 (P) AFU. 7 September 1943, 6 (P) AFU 7 December 1943, 24 OTU 4 April 1944, 61 Base 9 August 1944. |
His religion was Jewish. There is some uncertainty surrounding his forenames. Some sources include Aaron as a first name, others don't. His service records make no mention of Aaron and where there are references to Avroy, these are crossed out and replaced with Avron. |
