Miscellaneous Information
James was born on the 20 November 1916 in Toronto. His father born in Toronto, (who pre-deceased James) was an auditor in the Ontario Civil Service and his mother was born in Stratford, Ontario. He had sisters Gwynneth and Shirley and a brother, Lloyd George shown who was an LAC in RCAF. James attended Rosedale Public School 1925-1929 (Entrance). Jarvis Collegiate 1929-1935 (Junior Matric) and Shaws Banker School on an Insurance Institute of Canada course. James worked as a clerk for four years at the Canadian Bank of Commerce, 1935-1939 and a year at the Mutual Life Assurance Co.of Canada from 1939 until enlistment on 8 October 1940. His sports interests were skiing, golf and tennis and his hobbies shooting, photography and car mechanics. |
After initial training he embarked on 15 October 1941 arriving U.K. and 3 PRC on 1 November 1941. He then went to 1aaS on 20 February 1942, 22 OTU 29 April 1942 and 156 Squadron 21 July 1942. |
