Sgt. Pilot A. S. Dove survived the crash and was rescued by the German navy from the Baltic Sea and taken PoW (Camps L6/357, PoW No. 576). Due to the long range of the operation a second pilot was required and taken from another regular crew, this being Sgt Dove. Sgt Dove escaped from the Germans in the general chaos of the advancing Russian and Allied forces and upon repatriation contacted the families of all the crew who perished. |
