| Market Harborough Advertiser - 24th September 1943 "KILWORTH AIRMAN KILLED - Deep regret was widespread in this district when the sad news became known that Flight Sergt. Bernard Green, only son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Green, of Downton Farm, South Kilworth, had received fatal injuries in an aeroplane crash in England in which all the crew were killed. Sergt. Green was born in Ratby, Leicestershire, and was in his twenty third year. His parents afterwards came to live at Welford, where he received his education and later became a pupil at Lutterworth Grammar School. He was a popular playing member of the Welford Football and Cricket Clubs, and was employed at the B.T.H., Rugby, before joining the R.A.F. nearly four years ago. He has taken part in most of the big bombing raids over Germany, and had many thrilling experiences and escapes. He was married in 1942, much sorrow is felt for his young widow, and Mr. and Mrs. Green in their tragic loss". |
