| Born in Harlesden 10 October 1920. The family moved to Welling in 1929 and Raymond was educated at Shooters Hill Secondary School. After leaving school he was employed at The Road Transport Insurance Company and then the Southern Railway (Continental Section). He was a server at East Wickham Church and had been a member of the choir. |
| Completed around 70 Ops in two Tours with 214 and 215 Squadrons before being posted to 12 OTU in March 1943 as an Instructor. He was with this crew due to the predicted inclement weather for this training sortie to ensure that their decision making was sound. |
