Miscellaneous Information
Francis Edward Wood was born 16 February 1912 at Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. He attended Confluence Schools in Rocky Mountain House for years 1917-1926 and 1926-1930. He also attended an Associate Course in banking in 1940 at Queens University. He worked at the Imperial Bank of Canada in Toronto 1930-1941. His sport interests were tennis, badminton, skiing, skating, baseball and hockey. |
Francis enlisted on 30 March 1941 and embarked from Canada on 28 October 1942, arriving at 3 PRC on 5 November 1942. He tragically lost his life on same day as brother J/35930 F/O Harold Robert Good (http:internationalbcc.co.uk/loss/108866). |

Operation | Russelsheim- to attack the Opel motor factory. 412 Lancasters, 15 losses (3.6%). PFF marking was accurate and the German report states that the forge and gearbox plants were put out of action for several weeks but the remainder of the factory sustained little damage. Output was completely unaffected due to the stock of parts on hand. 179 people were killed. |
