Miscellaneous Information
Born 18th November 1908 in Openshaw, Manchester. He was an only child- his father worked as a grocer's assistant and Wilfred junior was a shipping clerk. He married Ethel on 21st October 1933 and they had three children - Jean, Barry and Anthony. He never met Anthony, who was born after Wilfred's death. |
Received air training in South Africa, graduating as Air Observer in December 1942. Subsequently sat a Combined Navigation and Bomb Aimer's course and graduated with an overall result of 85%. Commissioned June 1943 and after a further Pathfinder's training course was posted to 405 Squadron on 22nd June 1944. |
