Miscellaneous Information
Frederick was born on 19 August 1914 at Brantford, Ontario. His father was born at Brantford and worked as a Carder and his mother was born in England. He attended Dufferin School at Brantford between 1920-1929, and a year at the Technical School 1929-1930. He also spent a year at Ontario Agricultural College studying Ornamental Agriculture between 1937-1938 after being encouraged by the Brantford Board of Parks. He later spent some time working for the local Board. His interests were swimming, golf, skating, skiing, fishing and hunting. Frederick undertook a variety of occupations: Repairs at Gott’s Sporting Goods 1928-1930; back at school 1930-1934; winding at Slingsby Silk 1938; Gardener at Brantford Parks; gardener for Mrs. Scarfe in 1939 and finally as a Winder at Slingsby Woollen Manufacturing during 1940. He enlisted on 9 December 1940. |
After initial training he embarked from Canada on 28 October 1942, arriving at 3PRC on 6 November 1942. He then passed through 7 AGS 22 December 1942, 1656 CU 11 February 1943, 103 Sqn 13 March 1943 and 81 OTU 29 August 1943. He then appears to have been on leave in Canada at the end of his first tour and again embarked from Canada on 26 April 1944 but not arriving in U.K. until 24 June 1944, then 61 Base 14 July 1944, and 405 Squadron on 5 August 1944. He sadly died on 26 September 1944. |
