Miscellaneous Information
| John was born at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on 4 November 1917. His father was a Merchant who was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and his mother was born at Cootehill, Cavan, Ireland. He had a brother Harry and a sister Patricia. He attended St. John’s College school 1927-1933 and then again in 1933-1934 to study first year Arts. This was followed by Success Business College 1935-1936 (General Business Coursework) and then Dominion Business College 1937-1940 where he took a C.G.A. Accounting Course (all in Winnipeg). John enjoyed swimming, hockey and rowing and he was quite interested in photography. He worked for the Hudson’s Bay Company at Hudson’s Bay House in Winnipeg, as a clerk/accountant in the Fur Trade Department. This was from 1934 until enlisting on 4 November 1940. |
| Some of his movements prior to becoming operational include 15 OTU 22 September 1942, 1652 CU 19 January 1943, and 102 Squadron 28 February 1943. Sadly John was to lose his life on 13 May 1943. |

| Operation | Duisburg. 572 aircraft, 34 losses (5.9%). Near-perfect PFF marking lead to highly concentrated bombing and a significant improvement on the three preceding recent raids on Duisburg. The centre and port areas of the city were badly damaged, including four of the August Thyssen steel plants. Such was the success of this raid that no further raids were planned on Duisburg for some time. |
