Miscellaneous Information
Unusual crew in being entirely from overseas |
Lloyd was born at Regina, Saskatchewan on 29 December 1917. His father was a farmer, born in Buckingham, Quebec and his mother was born at Leonard, Ontario. He had five married sisters, and brothers Orval and Douglas who were both overseas in the army, and another named Harvey. Two more brothers had sadly died: Samuel in 1930 and Arthur in 1938. The schools he attended were in Regina, the Public School 1924-1932 and Central Collegiate 1934-1936. Between 1932-1934 he had undertaken correspondence courses. He was then at Fort William (Vocational) between 1937-1938. The sports Lloyd was interested in were hockey, basketball and rowing. During 1938 he worked for a motor company where he carried out greasing, checking and car repairs and then became a truck driver in 1939 until enlisting. |
After enlistment on 9 May 1940 and initial training Lloyd was sent to the U.K. where he arrived on 2 March 1941. He then went through 19 OTU, 14 March 1941, 1 S.S April 1941, 22 OTU 10 May 1941 and 405 Squadron on 10 July 1941. Lloyd sadly lost his life on 22 October 1941. |
