End Date | 05-09-1942 |
Takeoff Station | Marham |
Day/Night Raid | Night (29% moon) |
Operation | Bremen. 251 aircraft, 12 losses (4.8%). This was the first time PFF used a 3 force strategy- illuminators to light the area with white incendiaries, visual markers who used coloured flares to identify the target and 'backers-up' to drop incendiaries on the previously marked targets. The weather was clear and the raid was a great success. Weser aircraft factory and Atlas shipbuilders seriously hit. |
Reason for Loss | Shot down by a night-fighter and crashed at Altenrheine, Germany |
