Miscellaneous Information
Douglas was born at Westlock, Alberta on 15 January 1923. His father worked as a carpenter and was born in Wales and his mother was born in LIverpool, England. He had sisters Dorothy and Margery and brothers Stanley and Keith Selwyn. Sadly his brother J/6846 P/O Keith Selwyn had lost his life on 24 February 1942. The schools he attended were Westlock, Alberta and Langley, 1929-1937 followed by Langley High 1937-1941. His sport interests were boxing, football and basketball and hobbies fishing and hunting. He was also interested in the radio. Douglas spent two months in 1941 as a Mill worker for Burnett’s Lumber Mill at New Westminster, British Columbia before enlisting on 11 November 1941. |
After training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from New York on 8 October 1943 arriving at 3PRC on 17 October. Then at 82 OTU on 9 November 1943, 61 Base 10 March 1944, and finally 78 Squadron on 26 April 1944. Sadly Douglas was to lose his life on 13 June 1944. |

Operation | Amiens to bomb railway installations. Part of a 671 aircraft force to further hamper lines of communications leading to the Normandy area. Cambrai and Caen attacks were scattered but Amiens, Arras and Poitiers were accurate. 23 aircraft were Lost (3.4%) including that of Charles Mynarski VC, the subject of the Canadian Lancaster 'Vera'. |
