Miscellaneous Information
Born 13 July 1920 in Brigg, Lincolnshire. His father Frederick was born in Leeds c,1878, was living in Pontefract in 1901, and married his mother Amy at Burmantofts, Yorkshire on 11 April 1903. By 1911, the couple were living in Scunthorpe, where Fred was a bricklayer at a blast furnace. Fred enlisted at Scunthorpe on 17 May 1915, and his home address was given as 17 West Street. His records show that he served in the 1st West Riding Volunteer Artillery, and later in the Lincolnshire Regiment until his discharge in September 1917, being no longer physically fit for war service. He died in 1935. Tom was his youngest child; his older siblings were Fred (1903-73) Alice (born1906) John (1909-77) Walter (1912-94) and Harry (b.1915). The home address was given in Tom's probate records as as 24 Deyne Avenue, Scunthorpe. Tom worked in a steel rolling mill before enlisting. |
