In de nacht van 27 op 28 April 1944, zes weken voor de invasie, deden 144 Britse bommenwerpers een aanval op het grote spoorwegemplacement bij Montzen. De formatie werd onderschept door Duitse jagers die 15 toestellen neerschoten. Een bommenwerper stortte hier neer bij Cartiels. Halifax LL243 van 434 Sqn RCAF
