Miscellaneous Information
Mungo was born on 16 December 1922 at Montreal. His father was born at Carlisle, England and worked as a Clerk and his mother was born at Paisley, Scotland. He had two sisters- Mary and Margaret. The schools he attended were St. Brandon’s, Montreal 1928- 1937, followed by Luke Callaghan Memorial School, Montreal between 1937 and 1938. His sport interests were baseball, hockey, softball, football, fishing, hockey, and golf. Mungo worked at Keuffel & Esser Co., Montreal 1938-1940, and Canadian Vickers (Aircraft) Montreal, as a Material Clerk 1940-1942. |
He then enlisted on 15 June 1942 at Montreal. After training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from New York on 8 October 1943 arriving at 3 PRC on 17 October 1943. He was then at 82 OTU on 9 November 1943, 61 Base 10 March 1944, and 78 Squadron on 26 April 1944. Sadly Mungo then lost his life on 13 June 1944. |

Operation | Amiens to bomb railway installations. Part of a 671 aircraft force to further hamper lines of communications leading to the Normandy area. Cambrai and Caen attacks were scattered but Amiens, Arras and Poitiers were accurate. 23 aircraft were Lost (3.4%) including that of Charles Mynarski VC, the subject of the Canadian Lancaster 'Vera'. |
