In de woonwijk achter u crashte op 3 Februari 1945 Handley Page Halifax Mk III ZA-O RG 443 van 10 Squadron Royal Air Force. De bommenwerper was op de terugweg van een bombardement op Wanne Eickel in het Duitse Ruhrgebied toen deze werd getroffen door afweergeschut (flak). Het vliegtuig vloog in brand en ontplofte vervolgens in de lucht. De brandende brokstukken kwamen neer in Nunhem. Zes bemanningsleden vonden hierbij de dood
Translation "In the residential area behind you Handley Page Halifax Mk III ZA-O RG 443 of 10 Sqn Royal Air Force crashed on February 3, 1945. The bomber was on its way back from a bombing raid on Wanne Eickel in the German Ruhr area when it was hit by Flak. The plane caught fire and then exploded in the air. The burning debris came down in Nunhem. Six crew members were killed" |
